Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Jason Wheeler has officially resigned from his position at Hidalgo ISD. While this was a difficult decision, it was one made with careful consideration and rooted in family, as Coach Wheeler has expressed a desire to be closer to home.
Coach Wheeler has served as Head Football Coach for the past two years, during which time he demonstrated unwavering dedication to our student-athletes, the athletic program, and the Hidalgo ISD community. He is deeply grateful to the Hidalgo ISD Board of Trustees and district administration for the opportunity to lead, mentor, and coach our athletes.
Coach Wheeler will remain with Hidalgo ISD through the remainder of the school year and will continue serving the district in an administrative role at Hidalgo Academy, ensuring a smooth and thoughtful transition.
During this interim period, Saul Arjona, Assistant Athletic Director, will oversee the athletic program, while Jose Ponce, Offensive Coordinator, will oversee football operations.
Hidalgo ISD extends its sincere appreciation to Coach Wheeler for his leadership, commitment, and the positive impact he has made on our students and athletic programs. We wish him and his family continued success and happiness in the next chapter of their journey.
