It is with great pride that we introduce Dr. J.A. Gonzalez as the Superintendent of Schools for Hidalgo ISD. With more than 27 years of experience in public education, Dr. Gonzalez is a proven leader whose career has been defined by innovation, high expectations, and a deep commitment to students and families.

A former Texas Superintendent of the Year, Dr. Gonzalez brings with him a legacy of academic excellence, financial stewardship, and community engagement. He has led school districts to state and national recognition, including A-ratings from the Texas Education Agency, top-tier financial accountability scores, and award-winning programs in college readiness, music education, STEAM, and mental health support.

Dr. Gonzalez believes that every child holds a spark of brilliance, and that schools should be places where that light is discovered, nurtured, and given every opportunity to shine. Under his leadership, Hidalgo ISD remains focused on creating a future-ready learning environment that values equity, opportunity, and whole-child development.

A lifelong educator and South Texas native, Dr. Gonzalez brings passion, heart, and vision to Hidalgo ISD. He is committed to working closely with teachers, administrators, parents, and the community to ensure that every student is empowered to succeed.
